After the Miracle The Lasting Brotherhood of the ཱྀ Mets Audible Audio Edition Art Shamsky Erik Sherman Jonathan Todd Ross Simon Schuster Audio Books Reviews
- This is not just about one of baseball's greatest pennant races. It deals with brotherhood. Shamsky writes of friendships that have endured over half a century, proving that some things are stronger than the sport that brought them together. Back when the players had nicknames that were colorful "The Franchise," "Glider", et al. It was when people could afford to go to a ball game, and baseball was fun to watch. When the great Gil Hodges ran the Miracle Mets. It was the best of times as far as baseball was concerned, and when Shamsky gets together with his teammates, you feel as if you are there with them.
- I was 11 years old when the Amazin's won the World Series. I lived outside Philly but this team captured my imagination. I was always a National League guy so the Mets fit that bill but this was something different. Had posters adorning my bedroom wall of the team and Koos and Seaver etc. This book brings everything back beautifully. So well written. The idea of how the book is laid out with a review of the season followed by the trip of a few teammates to see The Franchise is perfect. Baseball fans should appreciate it but fans of that team will enjoy and savor that season once again by reading this book.
- Loved the book. Very well written and a must read for the baseball fan. Art Shamsky. Right fielder, first baseman for the Miracle Mets of 1969 and the co-writer Erik Sherman have created a wonderfully told history of the arrival of the lowly Merts of1962 to the Mets of 1969 rise to the victors of the World Series, against all odds. The reunion of the major players and their reminicrnses in a loving, respectful visit to an ailing Tom Seaver, the great pitcher for the Mets, evokes love, respect and admiration and comradeship for the Boys Of 1969. The celebration of the Mets 50 year ago victory will bring them back together and relive the incredible victory over 100 to one odds. The book should be read not only by a true baseball fan but also by a reader who loves a great story that is well written.
- This book reviews the '69 season and goes beyond that as a group from the 69 team visits with Tom Seaver at his home and vineyard. Obviously this was a special team hat brought special friendships. Plenty of familiar stories that are nostalgic with some new information included. a great read for any fan who grew up with the Mets and enjoyed that special team.
- Political tripe mixed in to what I thought was going to be a fun read.
- As a lifelong Metsvfsn I found the book enjoyable but wanted more on that amazing season. More clubhouse stories, etc. would have greatly benefitted this book.
- This book brought back so many great feelings of those great days.
To read the thoughts of some of my all-time favorites was awesome. - Not I !I a great book for Met fans, but also a story about life. How some bonds between friends create lifelong bonds. A book about the great times of youth, and the effects of aging.
