- If I could have given it a zero I would have. Why do most of us buy state or local bird guides? For me it is to get more refined locations for my target birds. This doesn't even come close in many cases. Example, Gunnison's Sage Grouse. One of the birds people come hundreds of miles hoping to see one. The location for this bird, unique to Colorado (except for a very small population in one county in Utah), is given in this "guide" as southwestern Colorado. This 1/4th of the state is an area 140 miles by 190 miles, over 17 million acres! Gee, that is very specific.
Identification of birds is very poor in several cases. Example, common goldeneye and Barrow's goldeneye. I won't go into detail here. Just look it over and see what I mean.
Cost of this book. At $20.64 here on , it is over priced for what you get. I have about 30 bird field guides and this one is the least useful of all of them. Spend less than $12 here on and get The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America. It has better identification information and WAY better locations for birds in Colorado. One reviewer said in response to another rating of 1, that he should have read the title and description of the "guide" to avoid being upset. Alison, the inside of the jacket states that it will tell you "when and where" to see the birds of Colorado. This is a ripoff, save your money. - This book is missing a number of Colorado birds and is filled with typos. It does contain some nice photograph and information. I don't think I would buy another and I'm glad I bought it used in the first place.

- Simply a superb companion to the other stuff out there. It's simple, well written, at times humorous, and useful. Get this book.
- Excellent field guide with great photos, and often amusing descriptions by Ted Floyd, who has a knack for distilling each species' "personality," habits, sound, and where & when to look for it..Good reading, and useful. Makes a great gift.
- This is a nicely done photo-based field guide for identification of Colrado birds rather than a guide to Colorado birding locations.
- Beautiful book with leather cover in handy size to carry into the field. Very nice photos depicting most all birds found in Colorado.
- Not really a birder, more a book worm. Nice to have on hikes, so far has been adequate for my needs, does add to my hike experience.
